Exclamation 17th US Regulars Co. F "The Fighting Blue Devils"

WELCOME TO THE 17TH REGULARS CO. F!!!

The 17th United States Regular Infantry regiment was one of the regular military regiments that fought in the American Civil War. These units were made up of professionals, veterans and West Pointers, who were stationed on the Western Frontier at the time of the Civil War. Despite the units having regular infantry training, the Regulars haven't fought a European-style war since the Mexican-American War in 1848! The Regulars were also broken up into their companies and manning the various forts across the West, fighting fearsome Native American tribes like the Apache, Sioux, Shoshone, and Navajo. They were more attuned to the guerrilla warfare style of the Native Americans than mainstream warfare and were armed with antique smooth bore muskets. Fortunately for the 17th Regulars, an odd fighting style and outdated weapons wouldn't be a problem because they were created immediately after the opening shots of the Civil War on June 29th, 1861. The entire regiment was moved to Fort Preble in Maine to train and recruit and was moved to Washington D.C. to join the gathering Army of the Potomac. In Washington, they were attached to Sykes 5th Corps.

    Battles

The 17th US Regulars would be a battle-hardened unit by their drumming out in 1865. They would serve on some of the Western Hemisphere's deadliest battlefields and sustain heavy casualties. By the end, the 17th Regulars would sustain 203 deaths: 9 officers and 93 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, 2 officers and 100 men to disease. Here are a list of battles that they fought in or were present at. Click the bolded battles to bring up a short history of the battle and battle maps, courtesy of the Civil War Trust!

I will approach ranks differently from other people while organizing my company. I start from the ground up, organizing those I feel best suited to the job into their ranks. Everyone starts as a Private. Those that stick around long enough and show good leadership skills, are disciplined, and promote the well being of all members will be rewarded accordingly.

First Sergeant Joseph P. Brevett of Company B, 2nd Maryland Infantry

First Sergeants are responsible for commanding the platoons and the Sergeant Major is in charge of training.
