Giving the Flag Bearer a weapon / planting the flag

I think giving the flag bearer a basic melee weapon would be nice, say a short sabre or something(but im not to sure on the historical accuracy). Another possibility would be to allow melee attacks with a flag, as in using the butt or tip of the flag pole as a weapon, perhaps give it slightly worse melee stats(range and swing speed) so that it is not incentivised but doesn't leave them as stranded ducks if they have to fight.

When defensive melted us added in just let people defend themselves with the colours. You'd give your colour party a four strong guard to begin with, so much as I personally would like some offensive ability is it really needed?

would be kind of cool to be able to plant your rifle while crouching if the bayonets attached.
