Yes, there is WW2 online, but come on.. its way to old
Did you ever play, and if so, what was your thought of The Saboteur? It obviously wasn't a multiplayer game. I played it for a day or two, but like all console games, I lost interest. My kids are more likely to stick to console games versus myself. But I would be curious if The Saboteur would meet the follow-up poster to your comment of "a developer thinking outside the box"?

Setting and the tech behind the Games.

Like, on paper, that WW2 Online Game sounds like the ultimate WW2 Game but I just could never get into it because of how, even at the time, dated the Visuals were and the Game felt.

Have you tried Resistance and Liberation? 3D voice chat... no score, no death messages. No HUD. Individual morale. Realistic weapon damage. It's free. You just need steam to download the SDK base 2007 and get the latest beta (1.6?). I had a server up until last year and hosted events on weekends. Admittedly it is hard to find a full server more and more. Some people still try to keep things going and occasionally put announcements up when servers are populated.

I wonder what the main differences will be between this game and 'Battalion 1944' -> http://battaliongame.com/

If you like more realistisch WW2 games -> Red Orchestra II / Rising Storm I & my oldtime favourite -> Hidden & Dangerous II

Battalion 44 = COD 1 & 2 multiplayer inspired while hell let loose is much closer related to squad from my understanding.

    Main difference

Battalion 1944 as stated from the website: "FAST PACED COMPETITIVE SHOOTER"
Hell Let Loose as stated from the website "This is a simulation of war... not an arcade arena shooter."

And indeed Red orchestra and Rising storm I are still amazing!

As said before me this game is very tactical based. This is not a game where you can gun and run, and be successful. This game requires teamwork, communication, and coordination between the different squads, platoons, commands, and communication between armor and infantry. This is a skill based game as well, no upgrades, no hud, no enemy icons, very similar to our WOR, except set in WWII. I'd even venture to say that this game requires more skill than the Red Orchestra series. With RO, you can run and gun, and be fine. In this game, I do not believe that this will work.

This game is based on a war of attrition, not the number of kills you get. Each objective you take has an effect on the enemy. Weakens morale, they lose reinforcements, they lose ammunition, and their defensive perimeter gets a tad smaller. I know the map I have seen is a map that covers several miles of Normandy (St. Marie du Mont, Brecourt Manor, Dead Mans Corner, the Sunken Lane). The area of play is a 4x4 kilometer area. Being the history nerd I am, I am assuming for the US side and German side there will be variations of playable units (4th Infantry, 82nd, 101st Airborne, 2nd Armored Division, 6th Fallschirmjägerregiment, 919th Grenadiers, 1058th Grenadier Regiment, 90th Artillery Regiment (Heer), some SS units, and a mix of armored units.)

The current maps that will be in game are St. Marie du Mont, Utah Beach, Carentan, Foy, Marvie (Battle of the Bulge), Hurtgen Forest, St. Mere Eglise, and potentially the Ost Front, Market Garden, and the PTO (if they get the required funding for these of course). I hope that helps shed some light on the subjective, I'm just a tad bit excited is all.

The game just finished its Kickstarter campaign today. IIRC, there's a PayPal funding campaign open now.
