There's no kill quite like overkill!

Well, only the Unions batteries. Usually the Confederates batteries had four canons. Also the Confederates unlike the Union had mixed canons in a battery.

Baltimore Light Artillery is a good example:

    1 3-in. Ordnance Rifle
    1 Blakely
    1 10-pdr. Parrott
    1 12-pdr. Howitzer

    Except ...

    Confederates had 80 batteries.
    Union had 66 batteries.

Estimating 5 cannon, (guns,) per battery, that's 730 cannon in just this battle alone.

I'm all for accurate numbers of artillery but scaled to the number of players playing. So with 60,000 players in one battle then yes, 700 guns would be OK. With at best 30 versus 30 maybe...1...would be a more accurate portrayal of the shelling one endures.

This. We got the better half of a company fighting in the battles, would like to doubt that there would be at least 12 pieces of artillery with them.
