OUR COMPANY / NUESTRA COMPAÑÍA

>In the A Company of the 1st Virginia Cavalry we have historic reenactment as our first goal, as we belong to a virtual simulation community. We will play adapting the tactics of the period to the game, using historical sources as Joel Roberts Poinsett's Cavalry Tactics manual, which was used in West Point prior to the beginning of the war. We aim to create a company that acts in a serious and efficient manner, while having good environment and fellowship, obtaining that way the best gaming experience possible.

If you want to be part of a spanish company and ride into battle, with your revolver on one hand and the reins on the other, look no further, jine the cavalry!

HISTORY OF THE REGIMENT / HISTORIA DEL REGIMIENTO

>The 1st Virginia Volunteer Cavalry Regiment was created in 1861 under the command of Colonel Stuart. It served with distinction in the Army of Northern Virginia, and took part in some of the most important battles of the war, as Bull Run, Antietam and Gettysburg. It participated in more than 200 engagements during the war. At the time of the battle of Antietam, the 1st Virginia Cavalry was under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Luke Tiernan Brien. The former commanders, James J. E. B. Stuart and Fitzhugh Lee, had been promoted, respectively, to Major General and Brigadier General.

The improvements in war technology had provided the infantry with a greater effective range of fire, which made cavalry charges increasingly scarce. However, the cavalry, with their great mobility, continued to play a crucial role in the army: it was its eyes. Cavalry units rode around the battlefield in order to locate the enemy and discover their positions, which provided the vital information that commanders needed to make their battle plans. Cavalry was also used to quickly take positions and defending them until the arrival of reinforcements, to harass the enemy, to cover the withdrawal of friendly troops, to quickly press where the enemy was weak, to pursue fleeing troops and, in brief, anything that required great speed and maneuverability. Having a good cavalry was of an immeasurable tactical value.
