Battery was formed in April 1861, originally destined to be an independent cavalry company, but later re-designated as a light artillery battery. The plan was first to have a battery of 8 gun, but was later reduced to 6. The first mustering took place around Beech Creek, just north of Selma, Alabama. July 27, 1861, the battery was officially mustered into Confederate service for the duration of the war at Montgomery, Alabama. It contained a total of 4 officers, 20 NCO's, 133 enlisted, with 1 surgeon. Information from the book From Selma to Appomattox, by Lawrence R. Laboda

Rally 'Round the Colors Boys!
Battery A is now recruiting for volunteers. The goal of the battery is to become a historically accurate, cohesive, small group of tough fighters. The future goal of the battery is to provide well timed and placed fire where it is needed most in battle. At Antietam, the Battery sustained heavy losses but provided such exemplary service to the men holding the Sunken Road. Utilizing only a pair of 3" Ordnance Rifles, they stood their ground and proved themselves as the "Symphony of Alabama!" As of now, the Battery is accepting volunteers from all over, and has multiple positions available within the battery. For future drill, considerations of two drill days a week will be set. Volunteers will be trained and organized as seen fit, but requests for billets can be made. We have our Battery reserved and forming on the Company tool, as well as a Steam Group for communication purposes.

Any Confederate Artillery is good Artillery! The boys in blue shall soon learn that from our batteries! Thank you, and appreciate your kind words. I am sure Gen. Hill is well served by your battery!
