Some of you may already be aware but saw this come in on some of my work feeds. Amputated limbs from soldiers wounded at Second Manassas have been found buried in a pit. Fascinating insight into the grim realities behind the game we play.

I dont think everyone is okay if a pit of limbs is found. lol

Nope, a goodly number of those poor fellows would have died of infections after the amputations, and after that, well who knows. I'm not sure what happened to American casualties but if they had been British, the lucky ones might have got a pension. Many would have ended up on the streets.

It's amazing how different of a time it was where the peak of medical technology was a hacksaw. The number of men who came home as amputees must have been astonishing. That is, if they even survived getting home.
