View Full Version : Active Groups Come Together

Hi All, Its becoming clear that we need to get all active groups together to discuss events going forward. Some of us have already spoken and have some ideas but let’s all get together and all agree. As this community is growing lately its clear we can have 2 servers full on event nights (sat, sun, mon)as we saw this last weekend. 1st Ga along with 6th La have been in the “overflow” server and we have filled it, as the main event was going on. We are proposing some sort of season where we round robin schedule events and dedicate servers for each night and then possibly have a playoff system for top teams. A lot of details will have to be hashed out to make this work and all the leaders that know of it so far are receptive. We can shoot ideas around here in this forum for now. We are proposing a meeting in 2nd corp Team speak ASAP. Lets set something up for this Friday at 7pm est?

I should be available to rep the 9th NY. I have a cut-off at 8pm ET for the 9th NY's drill.

I will pass this to the BRW members.

Lets also try and limit the amount of reps to 2 per group...so we dont have 50 people trying to talk over each other

As I said, I will be there for the 9th NY.

Also to note, we should actually use the woreventcalaendar@gmail.com that someone made. I've had our events in there for a while just to note.

Thank you all that showed for this meeting...we had many units show up to help build this community. I think we have made a great step forward and look forward to the next steps of setting up the season of competitive matches.

It is 4th of July next week how does next Saturday(7/6) sound? Same time 7pm?

I'll be posting some general stuff brought up on the meeting here (might take me whole weekend :p)
This way other non attending regiments\players are brought up to speed (all regiments are very welcome to attend the meetings)

The general idea on how to proceed for events :

The meeting shows we're all interested in having good organized events where everyone can participate and have a good time !This way regiments can have their 'regular' events without much hassle, while the community is server with an extra coordinated event.

Event coordination

[*=left]A feature event (day ?) with 30-45ish player groups* (in game multiplayer wouldn't be affected to much) per faction in an approximately 8 weeks 'ladder'.
[*=left]* These groups are made up from one or multiple regiments or orgs
[*=left]Groups/regiments not assigned the 'feature' event will join an so called 'overflow' server where a 'secondary event takes place'
[*=left]A gathering 30 mins before the event on TS/Discord.
[*=left]Event server(s) will have a password and it will be given in batches so attending regiments can connect.

Concerns ? : it might take some extra effort to have the 'feature event' balanced. (even factions is sometimes hard to maintain, thinking off auto balance here)

Knowing the numbers

[*=left]In order to having balanced events it's important to have an insight of the attending units numbers, it would be great to know 15 minutes before an event which numbers a group can actually bring. (I know some just show up seconds before the event or even during the event … maybe something we all can work on).

Idea ? : The overflow server could have a password in the beginning so regiments can connect and afterwards can be opened up for all.

The Apollo phenomenon

[*=left]Some already noticed Apollo is 'active' atm in WoR and shows up as the 14th Brooklyn with about 50-60 youtube fans.

[*=left]Since this almost fills one side it's best to have a set group playing against their group (and maybe filling up the rest ?)

Which maps to play

Some maps are "disliked" or perceived/experienced as oneven, regiments should think over which maps they prefer and which they really don't want to play (maybe put flags on a list like 'preferred', 'neutral', 'not a fan' …)
If we can get all data from the regiments/groups we can make up a maplist for the events.

0) East Woods Skirmish
1) Hooker's Push
2) Hagerstown Turnpike
3) Miller's Cornfield
4) East Woods
5) Nicodemus Hill
6) Bloody Lane
7) Pry Ford
8) Pry Grist Mill
9) Pry House
10) West Woods
11) Dunker Church
12) Burnside Bridge
13) Cooke's Countercharge
14) Otto & Sherick Farm
15) Roulette Lane
16) Piper Farm
17) Hill's Counterattack.

Note : In the meeting 'Dunkers church' was brought up as pretty 'even', since we playing 3 maps (or 2 out of three) Dunkers could be the last map.
Note : For the first two maps each faction picks one (we're all gentleman, as an example the CSA won't pick Millers Cornfield since the tends to prefer CSA to much)

Hosting

WHO HOSTS ? Some regs/groups have a server so it has to be looked in who host the feature event and who hosts the overflow. (lot of events are/been hosted by CSA regiments/groups … we have some experience on it but some Union input on it might be advised)
SERVER ADMIN : there are multiple regiments that feel the need they should have an admin on their faction (and an admin who can tend to their needs).
SERVER ADMIN : some regs have admin acces on other regs server, it's less needed if a server is password protected.
SERVER RULES : for the feature event, it's fair the have the same settings … like 'final push' and 'last stand' on/off. (is there an agreement on ON ? since that simpler ?)

EU meetings & EU events

Since it was late for EU players, we would like to hear some more input from more EU oriented groups, off course there is room to hold a meeting just before the EU event.

Other modes

Picket Patrol was brought up, for the feature event it will remain 'Antietam', this doesn't mean we can't have a PP , South Mountain or Harpers Ferry event (which might be interesting for 'new' players, maybe less for streamers ?) as an extra 'occasional' event.

DISCLAIMER : I might write mistakes here, it was 2-3 'o clock in the morning for me when I attended, so feel free to correct me.

Beautifully explained...you nailed it, with minor grammatical errors.

Next step is to get the maps that are "selectable" for events and we will all play off those maps. note to add, we are playing a 2 out of 3, if one team wins the 1st 2 then it may not be necessary to play the 3rd.

Hi All - after our second meeting to get this community event rolling we have set the rules. Before I get into that just want to mention, this system may not be perfect, but its a start to something fun and competitive hopefully. So rather than go through weeks of fine tuning, lets dive right in with a good base. We would like to start this for the weekend of
July 13-15

The format is as follows- Now this can be drawn on from one company or multiple companies. Once set, the teams can not change.

You may enter your event with less than 40 but no more than 40(servers will be locked to accommodate 80 players)
If less than 40 you may allow pubs to fill the void(passwords should be discouraged for this reason if bodies needed) Dont foresee mass missing players, try to build teams
accordingly.

Round Robin play style(play all teams in tourney once)
Mode will be Antietam(this time) and the maps will be static and played by everyone(this was agreed on by several top reps from companies, once again going forward if this
continues it can be modified)
Maps are 1. East Woods 2. Otto & Sherrick Farm 3. Dunker Church. We felt these were fair for the reduced number of players on map(one favors CSA one favors USA and
Dunkers is pretty neutral.
Scoring- you will play 3 games in your match(see maps chosen) and you will get 1 point per win 3 points total can be scored in a match.
With the amount of teams we anticipate, it will be top 2 point scorers for championship game.
A win on a game is determined by rules of Antietam maps(basically whatever the screen says after game on who is victorious)

IMPORTANT- LAST STAND AND FINAL PUSH ARE TO BE ON FOR CONSISTENCY!!!

Once teams are set the schedule will be created randomly. We will schedule 2 matches per weekend and you have all weekend to play them so we are not hurting main events
that typically happen. This may be a challenge so try to accommodate each other and it might have to cross into main event times to make these happen. Note that we have
been filling 2 servers during event times lately it should be an issues filling events up.
If you're scheduled to play and have your own server(most groups will in this) host on your server or the challengers? flip a coin or something to figure out whos it will be. we
can try to set this during the schedule creation.

So lets get this rolling if you are interested in this and want to create a team or have questions please reach out to me Either through Steam or email or reply here. Steam may be preferred

The major problem with doing a tourney on skirmishes is the morale system. Pubbies are a detriment to the defenders, for some reason people who are not in groups tend to run and get themselves shot in the open, further decreasing the morale for the defenders. No matter how much you can kill the attackers as defenders, you will most of the time lose. This is further compounded with maps that already favor one side over the other. How about Picket Patrol? Neither side is pre-selected as attacker or defender, you can have the same amount of people and lives, and the spawn points are mostly random. Also with picket patrol, you can have way more rounds that skrimishes. You can have as many as 3x the PP rounds that you would have on skirmishes. Another problem with skirmishes is that some maps with the way they are set up have a predetermined winner. Lets look at each map.

East Woods, I've never seen a Union victory on this map after playing many times on both sides. Even playing very sloppy on the confederate side.

Otto and Sherrick, The majority of the time Union wins here. Because even with defenders advantage, the union has way better cover on the stone wall compared to the picket fences and straight fences the confederates have.

Dunker Church is fair, ive seen both sides win.

If you want some fair maps, i would look at Miller's Cornfield, bloody lane, and East Wood's Skirmish.

I don't agree Millers Cornfield is balanced. The Union has to defend the middle of a cornfield with no cover other than visual. I've played that map maybe 25 times and I think Union won twice. One of those times I think you may have been with me. :D

There's not a single smart union commander that stands still in that corn. Sure, you're on defense, but who says you have to stand still?

Vulcarin

Couple things:
@Saris- in the initial meeting it was agreed on for Antietam, pickets would be best for even and no bias. Then the 3 maps where selected by the officers in the 2nd meeting it was supposed to be one that favored each side and then one that was as neutral as possible.
As far as pubbies, if you bring you allotted 40 players, then no pubbies issues as map will be capped at 80.

These are all moot points as there has been zero replies from people signing up for this, so its probably going to die out. Not sure why, as before we started setting this up there was a lot of interest and oddly now there is none...

If these brackets are going to run on non-event nights like Friday or Tuesday we are still interested; just as long as it doesnt conflict with our regularly scheduled events on the weekend. :)

It's still an unbalanced map. Any time you have to defend a point with no cover and you can't see the enemy it's going to be a challenge. It's pretty equal in that respect that neither side can see the enemy but then you guys get a ton more tickets so there goes the balance.

I really like the idea, so I would hate to see it die before we get started. I think a number of 2nd USSS Co. H would be willing to partake, though I do not presume to speak for us as a whole. But since I see our Captain commenting.... I know this particular weekend is not great for me personally, but I do want to try a tournament like this. Sounds fun.

Fair enough. I will 100% agree that ticket balance on almost every map is REALLY bad right now. And I have screens to prove it.

Poorlaggedman
07-13-2019, 02:05 AM
There's a way to change the tickets in the configuration files, I'm assuming it works. I've flirted with the idea of nullifying the tickets altogether for at least a finite period of time.

That also makes it possible to cheat though if you were hosting a match since the numbers behind the team morale are not transparent for players to check unless they do a lot of detective work after the match. It's something to consider.
