About Samuel Dixon
- Location:
- Fredericksburg, Virginia
- Interests:
- The Applied Sciences
- Occupation:
- Captain of the [2ndVA(Co.D)]
- Biography:
- As a young lad raised in the small town of Fredericksburg as the son of a plantation owner, I moved to Charlottesville in the years prior to the war to study a course in applied science at the University of Virginia. At the onset of the war, a representative from the 2nd Virginian Infantry Regiment confronted me as I was making the trip home to be with my family at Fredericksburg. This officer of the Confederate Army suggested I join the army with command of the [2ndVA(Co.I)] or risk being recruited as an enlisted man when conscription began. Being an educated man they preferred to "see my talents and knowledge used as best possible" rather than be wasted as cannon fodder in the place of any common farmboy.
