    August 10th - Update 118 Released!


    - Released a drill camp variation for the Union: Bolivar Heights Union Camp at Harpers Ferry. Consisting of some 1700 tents housing the more than 15.000 Union soldiers during the Siege of Harpers Ferry, the camp is indeed an impressive sight sitting on the slope of Bolivar Heights on the outskirts of Harpers Ferry. It is safeguarded by a fortification consisting of an embankment, abatis and an artillery redoubt to fend off any rebels looking to capture the town of Harpers Ferry.

    - Added an experimental auto balance system. When you die, if you are on the team that outnumbers the other team by more than 3 players, you will be brought back to the faction selection screen where you will only be able to select the other team, unless other players joins the outnumbered team before you, at which point you will be able to select the same team as the one you were just on.
    - Temporarily removed the Pry House skirmish area at Antietam to possibly fix players sometimes spawning in the air. Please let us know if you experience spawning in the air and dying after this update.
    - Added water splash particles in the rivers of Harpers Ferry.
    - Fixed nametags on players being offset while playing at certain resolutions.

    please rethink the auto balance feature, so if i understand correctly if i start playing and other team quits for what ever reason and it goes beyond being outnumbered by 3 and i die i have to choose to not play or join the other side- it might be one of our officers we depend on to do line and lead how is that fair to our team
    why is it my fault the other team quit and i have to be punished maybe the other teams need to get better and not lose
    you want people to play your game and not make people quit or play sides they dont want to play not fair to the people who didnt leave the game
    other notes look good the union will like the drill camp cause thats about all the do

    Awesome I can't wait until we can be able to fight on that map also! I can imagine that map had to take a lot of time to make. As usual good work!

    That's a pretty horrible idea.
    We're all ears to a better solution.

    Keep in mind your solution must be able to balance a server where one team is down say, 20 players in the middle of a match.

    I like the new team balancing, hopefully it prevents a team from getting stacked and then killing the fun for the other team so they all quit and cut a server population in half or more.

    Good stuff sometimes a group is done for the evening when they leave its good to have a balance system. But maybe you can implement a moment of choice for everyone on the other side with the most people, maybe people are willing to volunteer and go to the other side instead of making it completely automatic.

    It is not automatic. You are presented with the faction selection screen when you die. It is up to you whether or not you decide to join the outnumbered team or if you'd like to sit and wait it out until the other team is not over-populated.

    Other games force players to switch sides mid-game - we've chosen a less intruding option of presenting you with the above choice when you die instead.

    You are free to sit at the faction selection screen until your preferred team is open again (not over-populated).

    @Fancy : it has been brought up on the forum to 'show' the 'playercount' at the 'faction select' screen, to see how full/not full a faction is and if it's worth waiting. -> Any news on that.

    So to summarize :

    • Balance system only kicks in when there is a big drop in numbers in a certain faction (for example 20 players, like a regiment leaving)
    • The balance system is not automatic, if teams are unbalanced after dying you can not select the full faction … unless you wait and the balance is restored.


    P.S. : if a certain faction is lower on numbers, they will likely to be more dispersed or in smaller numbers, tilting the balance even worse … maybe a little boost in morale could be great.
    P.S. : this game is "different" then counterstrike, CoD or BF, since we have bigger groups who want to play together or preferring a certain faction.
