The Texas Brigade regiments were equipped with 1842 Smoothbore muskets, mostly until 1864.
There might be some soldiers, picking up rifles from dead soldiers. But the regiment was issued with the Springfield 1842.

I noticed some officers are equipped with what appears to be a remington 1858 and others somekind of round barrel colt?

    Who uses what?

The Springfield M1842 seems remarkably accurate for being a smootbore. It seems that it's just as accurate as the rifles for some reason.

I guess military loads would be sub-caliber making them inaccurate, but if it's actually a patched ball, or tight to the barrel you can get pretty good accuracy out of a smoothbore, at least at the distances on the shooting range.

We did not start to balance any rifles yet. Pretty sure it will be bit less accurate later

Indeed. It will make up for that with the ability to use buck & ball though I imagine.

Just please don't use Hollywood/common misconception on the accuracy. Look up people doing tests on youtube proving you can accurate shoot a .69 cal out to about 80-100 meters still, even with military loadings.
