    Loading on the move

Forgive me if I have missed a similar thread (though I have looked). The ability to load while moving would drastically increase the realism and historical detail of this game. Here are the reasons why.
    1. As a reenactor, I find my self loading on the move more often than loading while static.
    2. the inability to load while moving decreases realism because unless a person stops the loading sequence, then move, and then load again. This is very incovenient when a player has to respond to a new threat.
    3. Loading while moving would make moving in line formations much easier since officers would not have to ensure that everyone is loaded before ordering a formation to move again. This would also make formations a more sound tactical choice because as of right now, the formation cant move until everyone is loaded, costing valuable time.

I hope this helps, I'd be happy to help with historical advice etc. Thank you WoR for the hard work.

And how often do you use your ramrod and ram the paper down... when loading at a reenactment?
And if you actually do so, how often do you do that when in close order?

    --
Some of the drill books do tell us how to do it, but it is clearly for use when in skirmish order... since you still stop when doing some of the steps.
And that would work poorly when marching in close order.

Basically, when in closer order, you are suppose to load when standing still. With the commander giving the "Cease firing" order... then when (almost) everyone is loaded, he give the order to move... But this require a commander that think 2-3 orders ahead.

its actually very simple. I have loaded, even at a brisk walk while live firing my muskets, here's how you do it,
take the ramrod and hold it close to the muzzle so you dont bend it. Ram the bullet down a few inches at a time. When returning the ramrod, grab the musket by the muzzle end of the sling so it is in front of you in a safe direction and you donit burn your hands on hot iron.
If you would like more information on loading on the move, consult the book Civil War infantry Tactics By Earl Hess.

Loading is easy at the half step. Quickmarch is a lot more difficult, but can be done with practice.

Yeah... a lot of stuff like this would help a lot. It's something I was going to argue for. If you want a realistic game you have to allow for realism. Being a predictable sitting duck when reloading with the same predictable blind spots and the same inability to stop-and-resume the loading is not helpful towards reloading vs firing once and charging about wildly regardless of whether it takes once or twice thrusting your bayonet into someones midsection to incapacitate them entirely. I hope it's something that is planned.

Allow a fast reload (something like at present) that can be paused and resumed at three benchmarks or can be paused and finished stationary or on the move or can be started on the move at a slower pace.

That would be fair. Though for game reasons it should probably still be slower than at the standstill.

I like Napoleonic Wars where your reload starts off were you stopped at. It was a great feature for that game if you ever have to move.
