    Hello!

I would like to apply to join the II. Corps with my company.

I have already talk a little bit with the Major General Paioletti who proposed to my company to join the corps.

We are already part of the Louisiana Brigade.

    Newspapers

During the civil war newspapers reported news from the battlefield and tackled some war related issues, having our own papers printed seems like a good way to express our views and comment on current events.

    Disclaimer

    • A 'old' look 'n feel will be used to create some immersion without losing means to be creative, so it's more like a modern newspapers based on Original newspapers from that day.
    • Some of the correspondence will not be historical accurate as it depicts the game's community, we will however cover some historical facts/events.

This edition : hot air balloons or the so called 'spectator cam'

The spectator cam is something that once in a while is a hot topic, some claim it's a cheat * while others call it an gaming asset or a feature.

    • There was an unfortunate instance in the distant past where the enemy deployed a balloon to spy (boys just love new toys ), one of our companies adopted this strategy to counter this advantage.
    • Some even became slightly paranoid and started pointing fingers in all directions** even when the 'cam' isn't used and reports only come from scouts or visual sightings.
    • Since then the community has grown and during events the usage (unless for recording) of balloons is strictly prohibited, spies will be shot at sight !

    * Some could call the usage of the 'T' button to check behind trees/corners or the low graphic settings to see through corn also an exploit/cheat.

** For the Dunker's church map it's fairly easy for the CSA to counter the Federals as you can see almost as far as spawn and spot troop movement pretty fast.

    My General,
Sorry but I wasn't capable to come with my soldiers yesterday.
But we will be there at the next Second Corps drill.

This edition : sickness and disease during the civil war

Sickness and disease were the scourge of both armies and more men died of disease than in battle, of the 600.000+ casualties around 400.000 perished with sickness to the 200.000 who died of other causes.
Sanitation and hygiene was very poor and m
edical science was quite primitive by today's standards

Germs and the existence of bacteria had not yet been discovered, vaccination did exist in some forms but was still barbaric.
The usage of medication and painkillers was still in early stages and some of those are now considered "dangerous" or illegal or just bogus (wonder oils, miracle tonics) or wrongfully used.
Conditions in some POW camps where even worse, names like 'Andersonville' still echo through history.

Some random sources on POW camps : Andersonville , Rock island , Camp Douglas , prisoner exchanges
Some random sources on deceases during the civil war : sickness and disease during the civil war , civil war facts ? about diseases during the civil war , smallpox vaccine and syphilis during the civil war
Bonus : Dr. Tichenor and the birth of anti-septic during the civil war, dangerous cures of yesteryear revealed (1800-1900's) , 10 Old-Timey Medicines that got people high
