Civil War movies or TV shows

I own gods and generals and Gettysburg on blu ray. But am curious about other movies or TV series of the same calibre.

Might be an obvious choice, but Ken Burns' "The Civil War" documentary series is pretty much essential viewing for history buffs.

    North and South ;-)

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly... also take place during the civil war.

Stay away from anything made by "History" they are poorly made, and full of myth and errors.

Do you mean the history channel? As they are pretty poor from what I've seen.

The History channel used to be pretty good; then people stopped watching because they thought it was boring. So now the History channel does aliens and exciting stuff that they know is stupid, but they also know that people will watch it because of how outrageous it is.

Glory (1989) was an excellent movie, I highly recommend it.

"Following the Battle of Antietam, Col. Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick) is offered command of the United States' first all-African-American regiment, the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. With junior officer Cabot Forbes (Cary Elwes), Shaw puts together a strong and proud unit, including the escaped slave Trip (Denzel Washington) and the wise gravedigger John Rawlins (Morgan Freeman). At first limited to menial manual tasks, the regiment fights to be placed in the heat of battle."
