    Original Confederate Uniforms

This thread is for the posting of original Confederate uniforms. We would appreciate it if you post which type of jacket, what person it belongs to and unit.

These two videos popped up on my recommended a few days ago. It shows a whole bunch of uniforms that units from both sides wore. It gives the unit name and date for each one.

    (L) Frock Coat Worn by the Rev. Lyman B. Warton, Chaplain of the 59th Virginia Infantry. I cannot tell if the facings was originally black (Surgeons), or always dark blue. Note the Latin cross in the place of a Major's star. There are many illustrations and several descriptions of the Latin cross insignia in print, but this is the only verified example I have seen of a cross on the collar.

    (C) These North Carolina Chaplains are wearing double-breasted frocks and Captains rank (Rev. A. D. BETTS, Chaplain, 30th Regiment; Rev. I. A. BICKLE, Chaplain, 20th Regiment; Rev. A. A. WATSON, Chaplain, 2d Regiment; Rev. A. W. MANGUM, Chaplain, 6th Regiment; Rev. A. I. STOUGH, Chaplain, 37th, Regiment; Rev. WILLIAM S. LACY, Chaplain, 47th Regiment; Rev. R. S. WEBB, Chaplain, 44th Regiment)

    (R) This is James P. Boyce, another Confederate Chaplain wearing the Captain's rank. Boyce was the first president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I attended seminary.
