95th Pennsylvania Virginia march 1862 Colorized
Does anyone know of any photos of Union soldiers they feel are very iconic and most relatable to a modern day veteran? Something casual, not a staged tintype studio photo. Preferably something I can find ultra high resolution in the library of congress.

Problem is that with the shutter speed (it was done manually)of cameras of this era something other than staged shots was almost impossible. Any movement would cause blur. I doubt that there are many civil war fotos out there which are true casual snapshots, that’s something that only became possible some decades later with the invention of smaller formats/cameras with automatic shutters. I know that someone was doing civil war style fotography here in the forums who possibly could explain that better than me or correct me, if I was wrong.
Thanks. The gravediggers are along the lines of what I'm looking for but I'm not sure I want to use that.

Those are nice but I wish all of them were colorized. Color really brings the photos to life and puts you right there with them.

That is ridiculously fantastic Rbater, a whole company represented in a complete collection of ferrotypes! It is a shame that so many of them are unidentified.
