Losing rifle if you try and pick up the flag but miss

I have seen this happen to me twice in two weeks, you try to pick up the flag, but someone else beats you too it by a milisecond, you lose your rifle and can't do anything but wait for your inevitable death or press F9.

I also pick flag bearer today and spawned in as a normal soldier with a rifle, but on the bottom righ screen it still stated i was a flag bearer!
