    The artillery of Antietam-"Artillery Hell"

    Artillery at Antietam
At Antietam, the rolling terrain was of benefit to the artillerists of both armies. Placing their more than 500 cannons on high ground, blue and gray alike were able to effectively strike enemy troop positions at great distances. So intense was the cannon fire, Confederate Colonel Stephen D. Lee, who commanded the key artillery position located where the Visitor Center is today, referred to Antietam Battlefield as "artillery hell."...

With the artillery implementation hopefully around a close corner, I was trying to find content on the Forum about WoR's in game destructable objects as a result of cannon shot. I'd appreciate a direction if there is one for this.

I read content a while back regarding fences and wooden structures being damaged or destroyed but am interested to know what reliable cowering places I can hide behind during a cannonade.

Good article RhettVito by the way.

    Hi there!

For the initial implementation of artillery we won't be featuring destructible objects. We'd love to eventually at the very least be able to feature destructible fences (as those will present quite the obstacle for the arty crews).

Having descructible fences is somewhat complex to pull off however (which is why it's not featured in the initial arty implementation) as it is tied to how our many thousands of fence segments are placed in the levels (using an in-engine tool called the spline distributor).

I've made sure to break down most of the fence lines in close proximity to the battery positions in order to allow the batteries a clear field of fire even without supported fence destructibility in the first arty release.

Cheers for the quick response Trusty. Thats good to know. Totally understand that the Artillery Implementation and everything that is associated will be a step by step "work in progress".

So just to check, if a soldier is inside a wooden, or any other material that doesn't enjoy getting hit by projectiles for that matter, structure (House, barn, shed etc.) then cannon shot of anytype will be able to potentially kill them but it wont affect said structure for the just stage of release which is the current case with infantry engagements.

It's a desprate need for self presevation knowledge.

    No worries.

Yeah you can at the very least expect shells to act identical to miniť balls when it comes to object penetration (I would however guess that it will be boosted significantly over the current 70% penetration chance that miniť balls have when, say, shooting at a fence or a wooden wall.
