The 51st Pennsylvania, is an organization of gamers coming together to have a good time playing War of Rights while trying to stay as professional as possible. All members of the 51st look to honor the fighting men who served in the 51st during the Civil War. We like to have fun and joke around sometimes, but we will not tolerate trolling, racism, purposely team killing, insubordination, etc. If caught you will be removed without question. We drill using Casey's infantry tactics to try and truly immerse ourselves, and better reenact the unit to the best of our ability. We also have a designated bugler who will play bugle calls during all our events to also give our members a better experience while with us. Our unit attends NA events only. We do not require attendance for events, but we do reward hard work! All the information on our history, standard event schedule, and how to join is listed above.

The 51st wore a standard issue federal uniform. A dark blue sack coat and forage cap, Light blue trousers, and brogan shoes. They were issued federal belt and buckle, cap box, and cartridge box w/ a sling. They carried their extra gear in a knapsack or a blanket roll. The 51st New York were equipped with the M1861 Springfield along with its socket bayonet. The M1861 Springfield using a .58 caliber minie ball is known for its high accuracy and usefulness at medium and long ranges. Our unit is currently in game on the following maps: Reno's Fall, Bolivar Heights Camp, and US Drill Camp.

The 51st Regiment carried two battle flags. Their regimental flag was a large blue flag with the unit's designation and the state crest in the center. The second battle flag is the standard national flag that most units during the Civil War received but it had the state crest in the top corner.

The 51st was recruited in Montgomery, Northampton, Union, Centre, Lycoming and Snyder Counties and organized at Harrisburg under Colonel John. F. Hartranft on November 16, 1861. Attached to Reno’s Brigade, Burnside’s North Carolina Expeditionary Corps for Burnside’s Expedition to Hatteras Inlet and Roanoke Island, N. C. They would fight at the Battles of Roanoke, New Bern, and Camden. Moved to Newport News, Va. and assigned to 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 9th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac on July 6th, 1862. Fought in the Battle of Second Bull Run and Chantilly. Engaged at the Battle of South mountain in the Fox's Gap before the Battle of Antietam.

The regiment was commanded at Antietam by Colonel John Hartranft. On the morning of the 17th Ferrero’s Brigade was in position about a half mile northeast of this point on the Rohrback Farm. About 9 A.M. it moved to the left and, after several changes of position, was ordered to carry the bridge. The 51st Pennsylvania and the 51st New York were formed under cover of the hill overlooking this point; skirmishers were thrown forward to the stone fence above the bridge and behind fences and trees along the stream below it; and, under cover of the fire from the Federal Artillery, the two Regiments charged down the hill, carried the bridge and formed, under cover of the bluff, in the road beyond it. The 35th Massachusetts, closely supported by the 21st Massachusetts, followed and ascended the bluff on the right where, later in the day, it was joined by the remainder of the Brigade and led the advance to the Otto farm lane, where it became severely engaged and lost heavily in killed and wounded. After Ferrero’s Brigade carried the stone bridge it formed under cover of the high ground north of it. Nagle’s Brigade formed on its left. Willcox’s, Scammon’s and Rodman’s Divisions formed in advance of them and moved on Sharpsburg. On the repulse and retirement of the three Divisions, Ferrero and Nagle advanced to check Confederate pursuit. The left and center of Ferrero’s Brigade halted under cover of the crest of the ridge beyond the ravine, the right (35th Massachusetts) continued its advance to Otto’s lane, 270 yards distant, and engaged the Confederates posted on this line behind the stone walls right and left of it and in the 40 acre cornfield south. The engagement continued into the night, Ferrero’s Brigade suffering much loss. Casualties at Antietam: Killed 21, Wounded 99, Total 120

Our official schedule is listed below. However, that does not stop anyone from going to other events independently. We will also find random times to play during the week.

We are a proud member of Burnside's IX Corps, an association of hard-fighting Union Army companies and the terrible swift sword of President Lincoln's Army.
