The 1st Maryland Light artillery or Battery B, depending on where you look was almost always called "Snow's Battery", after its founder and CO Captain Alonzo Snow. From the early parts of the war Snow became somewhat ill and 1st Lieutenant Theodore Vanneman took over for Antietam, though it was still known as Snow's Battery because it had gotten a fairly famous reputation especially in Maryland. In the company tool it is know as Vanneman's battery which is ultimately incorrect and does not really reflect upon their founder and ultimate CO as he was still in a command position. For these reasons and seeing the soon release of artillery I would like to see the name of the battery changed so it can not only be more accurate but true to its history.

Vanneman himself wrote that, "Snow's Battery arrived on the field just in time to drive the rebels back with slaughter. All around us their dead bodies lie."
