USA General of the Army
Without him knowing what lays in fron of him? or left and right?
Day 1 still saw one deadly mistake by not taking the high ground. Personal assumption This was also clear back then to Lee
In my opinion the Confederates took too many losses on day one without gaining the advantage of the high-ground. So many of their regiments were shattered and not able to be used on day two or three for that matter. The Union could absorb those type of losses due to their massive numbers but the Confederacy could not. Without the advantage of cavalry, Lee should’ve disengaged and reevaluated.
Again we have the benefit of hindsight.
