[Question] Do Companies started here hold "the rights" to a unit?

So, firstly, please bare with with me, as I'm not a veteran of North and South for Mount and Blade (although I managed to get N&S working for M&B on my laptop last night and will try and get some experience under my belt soon). I don't know all the lingo and concepts being carried over from that community.

My question is this: Do "Companies" here have the rights to a unit, ie they have the exclusive right to play as that Unit in the game, or is it that anyone can play as that unit but "Companies" here represent Clans who specialise as playing as that unit.

So, for example, say I want to play as the Tiger Rifles in the game; Can I jump into that unit any time I like, or do I need to be registered as part of the company first?

Can I start the game, decide I feel like playing as the Fighting Irish 69th that day, or do I need to join the company in a long term way to do so?

The impression I'm getting is that Companies do hold exclusive rights, and that you have to network with other players into forming a group so that you can unlock that unit.

Again, as someone who isn't familiar with the North and South mod and is coming into War of Rights on a blank slate, I'm somewhat confused.

No, they don't have the right to play as that unit "exclusive"
Companies are something like a "Clan", which will have a special tag ingame.

Like if you form the 1st LA as a company, you can play ingame as any other regiment.

On the other hand, if you don't join a company, you can also play as any other regiment ingame. Companies are more likely a group organization and support the role-play aspects of the game.

They do not hold the rights for any ingame unit at least not in a normal match. We'll talk about the company specific matches later.

Exactly the doubt I have right now but explained in better way.
I hope this thing of companies don't translate to "oh... I can't get in this game because it's full of companies, better find another server, oh..."

Okay I think I'm starting to understand this.

So, for example, say I'm playing on a random day, and at the start of the round I decide "Hey, today I feel like playing as a company from Georgia"; Am I free to make a Georgia unit for that round without needing a registered company before hand, and random players are free to join that unit? With access to their proper uniform?

Thanks for being patient in explaining this.

    Edit:

Oooooh, okay, I think this explains it best.

"Companies" in the sense they're being used on this part of the forum refer to Clans who specialise as a unit, but anyone is free to play as any unit they feel like on the day on the normal servers.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

On a random server. If a regiment from Georgia fought at that location during that particular battle in real life. Then the answer is most likely yes.

So he's been made the top of the chain of command example and is now this Quartermaster rank. I smell heavy favoritism here

He volunteered to start a thread to write down the company list. So I put in the Quartermaster rank for fun, for his work.
Never expected that guys will have a problem with it, so every unique rank will be removed from now on.
