1st Virginia Infantry Battalion - Companies C and D (Irish)

    Theatrical Music:
    BATTALION PLACEMENT:
Jones' Brigade, Jackson's Division, Second Corps, Army of Northern Virginia

    BATTALION STATUS:
Mustering at Capital Square Grounds, Richmond County, Richmond, Virginia
CALLING ON ALL SONS OF ERIN IN RICHMOND AND HANOVER COUNTIES TO FULFILL THEIR DUTY

The 1st Virginia Infantry Battalion (<-- Click for Steam Group), has been instructed on this day, April 17th, 1861, by the Virginian Legislature and Thomas J. Jackson to raise a Battalion of men. All able-bodied males, living in the Virginian counties of Richmond and Hanover, whom are of Irish decent are instructed to Enlist immediately; for this, our second war of independence. Men of the Valley, Citizen-Soldiers: On April 15th in the year of our Lord 1861, Simon Cameron, the Secretary of War of the United States sent a telegram to the Virginian Governor, John Letcher, instructing him to raise three regiments of infantry to be sent to assist in suppressin' the southern confederacy. His wire in Washington stated, "You have chosen to inaugurate civil war. And having done so, we will meet you in a spirit as determined as the Lincoln Administration has exhibited toward the South." Two days later, the Virginia Legislature held a second vote for secession that passed. Just as we would not send any of our soldiers to march in other states and tyrannize other people, so will we never allow the armies of others march into our State and tyrannize our people. It is not with a light heart that many within the Battalion have left the Union, most of us have been Union men our whole lives, had our neighbors to the North practiced a less bellicose form of persuasion, perhaps this day might have not come. BUT that day has been THRUST upon us, like it was THRUST upon our ancestors! We stand as the first line of defense, for not only our state of Virginia, but the rest of this newly formed Confederacy. In the spirit of '76 we must hold firm, we must drill efficiently - tirelessly, and we must hold that line! Sons of Erin, the flag of independence has been raised, and the side of the right has called us to action! Honor the call.

"Sirs, you have no reason to be ashamed of your Confederate dead; see to it they have no reason to be ashamed of you."

This Battalion is for the purpose of emulating a real Confederate Battalion; (Realism) the 1st Battalion of Virginian Regulars in particular. You are expected to be active, mature and well disciplined. We pride ourselves in keeping all unit activities well-organized. We follow Chain of Command, as well as our own Handbook, and operate on and off the Battlefield as a Civil War Battalion would have. We have Basic Combat Training for new recruits so that they may learn commands and how the Battalion as a whole operates. We have also incorporated Staff Offices within our Battalion allowing Non-Commissioned Officers and Enlisted men to serve the Battalion in other ways off the Battlefield. In order for you to be able to advance up the ranks (beyond Private), you must show that you are capable of following orders, helping others in and out of game, making constructive suggestions and have a good understanding of the tactics and commands used. [It's also highly encouraged that you help in creating opportunities for others (by working a Staff Office)] It is also necessary that you are active on the War of Rights forums, and on Steam, but most important is your overall activity within the Battalion.

The Battalion is about a sense of community in addition to realism. You are going to be held to a higher standard of maturity and activity in our Battalion. Our members earn additional rank by participating and helping run the unit, not through individual skill. And while we remain competitive, we place a higher premium on teamwork, participation, and a sense of community. If you want to be apart of a brotherhood/sisterhood of gamers who thrive on dedication, discipline, and teamwork, then this is the place for you. We are continuing to grow by the day. If you join up, you will be rolled into our Cadet Platoon (BCT), and be issued the following: a Lee Enfield Pattern 1853 .577 caliber rifled musket, a Richmond Depot #1 Jacket, a pair of grey/brown trousers, a forage cap, a pair of brogans, leathers (including cartridge box, cap pouch and a belt with a VA buckle), canteen, three days rations, and a knapsack for personal belongings. The program will cover tactics and provide an introduction to how the Battalion works. The emphasis in Training is the Platoon and Company. No matter your own skill level, you will need to get used to relying on others and following orders. If you are interested in joining the 1st Battalion of Virginia and want to know more about who we are and what we do, then add Captain MacMillan (<-- Click for CO's Steam Profile) on Steam for details.

    Code: As it has already been mentioned, we are aiming to represent one of the finest Battalions that existed, therefore our members must meet our etiquette. If a member is to do well within the Battalion they must do their best to follow the Code of Conduct. Following this will lead to promotions if the member is proficient enough to do the task;

    1. They must be respectful to everyone no matter the circumstance. This may be fellow members or players out with the Battalion. This also covers insulting someone, racism, retaliation in-game, bullying, trolling and discrimination. At all times you are representing the Battalion and must show the highest level of maturity.

    2. They must follow orders. This is extremely vital as you must follow orders given by your Commanding Officer or Superior, and must be done so without argument or hesitation. If you don't agree with the tactics being used by your Superior there is a time and place to bring your point forward. During events is not the time and you must respect their decisions.

    3. They must learn and train to become proficiently skilled soldier in tactics as well as skill.

    4. They must remain active to be a useful contributer to the Battalion, attend trainings and events when you can and if not please inform us so that we know.

    5. Extreme behavior and discipline is to be shown at all times no matter where you are. During linebattles there is to be no head banging, fidgeting in line and aiming your weapon at a teammate. Members must use the Permission To Speak (PTS) system during events if requested by the commander. This is to avoid anyone speaking over the Commanding Officer when commands are being given and PTS must not be abused. During linebattles the main chat is not be used by anyone except the Commander.

Commander's History: Hello, my name is Captain MacMillan, leader of C Company. I have been participating in line warfare over the past 8 years online - from Battlegrounds 2, Mount and Musket, and Secession to Napoleonic Wars, North and South, and now War of Rights. Outside of computers, I reenact - Civil War reenacting. I have been doing this for 10 years now, and hold the rank of First Sergeant in the 2nd South Carolina. I was voted into this position after being voted into the positions of Sergeant (3 Years Time in Service) and Corporal (2 Years Time in Service) I have also fought with the Irish Brigade, and the 24th Michigan whilst reenacting. Whether you plan to fall in with us Confeds, or you go over to the Federal side, I look forward to seeing you all out on the battlefield. Godspeed Gentlemen.

Teamspeak 3 is an extremely important for the Battalion. It is imperative that every member of the Battalion has Teamspeak as it is needed for communication. The Battalion cannot function without this, therefore it is a requirement that every member has it. Rules for in game still apply on Teamspeak. This is very important during events - off topic and unneeded chat will not be allowed. Members must also remain, going by our values, mature and respectful at all times.

    Men of Erin,

It is with pleasure that I welcome our newest recruit, Mr. McPheeters to our beloved regiment

"Gentlemen, it is an honor to fight beside you. Make Lincoln rue the day he crossed swords with us. Let every man do himself, his family, and his country proud!"

    Godspeed,

Sergeant Charles MacMillan - 1st Virginia Infantry

Just so you know WoR is going to have VOIP so Teamspeak isn't going to be needed.

Also, I don't know what the etiquette with being in multiple-companies is, but if it's fine I might join up.

    Dear Celt,

To answer your question regarding our communications. I know there will be voice chat in the game, but in order to keep our communications as open as possible, I will be asking people who join the Battalion to use Teamspeak. From what I've seen, commanders of the Company will use voice chat in game - PTS's and lower rank chat will be through TS.

As for joining our Battalion, we'd have to have a discussion as to what your other regiment is requiring. I'm not opposed, but I can't answer the question until we talk about it in more detail

    Godspeed,

Sergeant Charles MacMillan - 1st Virginia Infantry
